For me therRytm is a sound design / groove tool rather then just a drum maschine. On the other hand the TR8s can become a fantastic sound / FM synth beast if you know how and have patience to dig into two line display - look and TR8S MASTER channel / sessions. Amazing what he can do with it.

I'm deep in the rabbit hole trying to decide on a fun sampler. The old MPC1000 is the only sampler i have...it is sooo heavy. Really want to have an internal mic for sampling noises, sounds from the environment etc. I think this fits the bill...

How is Oxi One not a DAW?

I used to have the OP-1, might consider it again one day if it also brings additional 4 MIDI tracks to complete with the audio ones. Otherwise the workflow is cool. I just don’t feel well with the « tape based » only workflow.

Been eying the OXI, but isn’t it better to use a groovebox instead ? Roland MV-1, MPC, M+, Blackbox, Digitakt mk2, all do pretty well in being the sequencer of your setup. I personally use a lot the MV1 for its quick workflow or MPC when I look for more complex sequencing. Never tested Elektron but I’m sure it must be a very good tool.

The OP1f is irreplaceable to me, because while it can maybe do only 50% of what a dedicated sequencer/synth/sampler/mid controller/looper/fx pedal/audio interface could do, it can do 50% of _all_ of those devices in a tiny device that's still actually musically usable. Sometimes I just use it to hook up the speaker to a synth. Other times I use bluetooth to play a part into a DAW or try out a new soft synth on the iPad. It's always just _there_ and ready to go. It doesn't need power or even cables, just turn it on and get going. It's definitely very expensive, and definitely a small subset of what dedicated devices can do - but as a musical/music tech Swiss army knife there's nothing out there as good in as compact a form factor, that you can still play as an instrument. Shop around and you can get one for $300 less than RRP.

Great watch. Loved what she said.. also her choice of gear. Imo you don't have to roll with all new kit to make great music. The gen 1 Elektron kit still sounds great and can be just as inspiring.

Good stuff. I’ve owned most of the Elektron gear… but not the Rhythm. I want one… but of their products that one seems to be the craziest priced to me. I sold my AnalogFour and Syntakt. I made one of my fav albums with them and so have some regrets… but also good to move on and try new gear. I picked up a ModWave… took me a bit to figure it out… but now happily making new noise :)

When it comes to sequencers, what do you think about using an app on a tablet (KORG Gadget, FL Studio Mobile, Koala etc.)? Apps are pretty intuitive to use these days.

Squarp Hapax is the king of all sequencers. Don't sleep on it.

OP-1 feature set is intentional. It demands the attention and focus that we had back when we recorded on actual analog 4 track tape. That intentionality shows in the music I make with mine. Agree it is not at all convenient.

I sold off all my other sequencers once I realized that I could do anything I wanted with my MPC. Some other devices make certain things easier, for sure, but being able to have 128 tracks or, effectively, unlimited length, is pretty powerful.

I’d try the Oxi One if I wasn’t on my second Deluge (with the fancy screen, no less!).

Thanks for the great video. I now own a Yamaha Seqtrak and a Korg SP404 MK2 which is a great couple. I use the Seqtrak for creating beats and chords and the SP404 to record and mix them. I now desperately want an OP1 Field to have the most capable portable synth. I absolutely love the design and am very curious on the workflow. Saving up for that, but for now I like to emphasize that the Seqtrak is the most underrated workstation that exists. The thing is sooo powerful.

Damn. The digitone was the main reason I was here. That's too bad. I'll most likely hang around anyway.

I've been going back to a full daw setup but the oxi one is really catching my eye.

hot take. KO2’s unlimited sequencer is better than all of those. 48 independent tracks up to 99 bars each, quantised or unequalised or mixture thereof. PROVE ME WRONG. 😂❤

Rytm mki has individual outs if you have a few splitter cables. the reasons to upgrade to mkii is for some extra knobs and buttons, much better pads and a MUCH better screen as well as a more comfortable lay-out. i still have a mki because i mostly use it to record simple loops into a sampler (currently using sp-404 mkii). the rytm circuits are great. i love the sound of it, especially the toms.

Midi sync with op1 field don't get me started but... After many battles with this topic with no luck then updated to the latest software; Set up ableton so it receives midi clock from op1 field then press play on op1 (I nearly fell of my chair). It was locked in ...

Oxi one. I get that it's brilliant - I just don't know if I'd feel the same way without trying one. Interested in your further thoughts You're using it instead of the elektron sequencers or in tandem with? I personally think I'll probably go back to deluge after stupidly selling mine. The push 3s was not a solution. Yes it has many qualities that could be superior... But nah.
